Meeting Faery May: A Meditation with the High Priestess

On 17th December 2017, during one of my archetypal meditations, I followed Swithun and the beautiful red squirrel guide through the forest. I followed the path to the right, which led me towards the energy of the High Priestess.

At first, the figure I met appeared as an old hag. The sight was quite discomfiting, yet I held my ground and asked, “What do you need from me?” The reply was simple: “You may breathe.”

As soon as I received her words, the figure shifted. What had seemed dark and daunting softened into the kindly presence of a wise old woman — sharp as a button, but full of warmth. To my amazement, she revealed herself as Faery May, the higher-self presence of my paternal grandmother. In her earthly life, my Granny (whose name really was Faery May) would have denied this side of herself. I remember one day telling her that I would sometimes hear a voice guiding me in my head, and I recall how distressed she became and she warned me to never tell anyone about this…  Yet here she was, meeting me in her archetypal form, radiating the gentle wisdom of a fairy grandmother.

Her message was clear: “just Be in tune with the faeries.”

The Faery Ring

Faery May invited me to place my right hand upon my right thigh, over a small ring of broken veins. She explained that this was my Faery Ring — a physical reminder of my connection to the faery realm. What I had thought of as a flaw in my body was, in her eyes, a portal of power.

With my left hand, she taught me a gesture: bring the thumb and middle finger together, letting the index finger extend forward like a wand. This, she said, was a faery healing mudra.

To deepen the practice, a selenite wand could be placed inside the palm, with the thumb and middle finger holding it while the index finger rests on top. Selenite, she reminded me, is a cleansing stone linked to Selene, goddess of the moon. It is a conductor of what she called “Liquid Angelic Light.”

Commentary

This encounter shows us how different strands of feminine energy can weave together into a single archetypal presence.

Hybrid feminine energy — The High Priestess, in this meditation, first appeared as the crone, then softened into the grandmother, and finally revealed herself as a faery. This reminds us that the feminine can be both sharp and kind, ancient and playful, earthly and otherworldly — and often, all of these at once.

Selenite and Selene — When we bring selenite into our practice, we are also calling upon the healing qualities of the moon. Selene, goddess of the moon, embodies purity, emotional clarity, and luminous healing. Holding a selenite wand links our own bodies and intentions with this wider cosmic feminine.

Faery realm and the inner child — The faery ring is a reminder that what we may see as flaws in our bodies can in fact be portals to deeper realms. The faery energy feels deeply connected to the inner child, inviting us to approach healing through innocence, play, and unconditional love.

Ancestral voice — Meeting a guide who carries the energy of grandmother or wise elder can also feel like reclaiming a voice for our lineage. Sometimes those who came before us had to keep their mystical side hidden. Through us, that voice can be spoken again.

Liquid Angelic Light — This phrase carries the essence of the full moon: soft, silvery radiance overflowing with healing presence. It reminds us that healing can be received simply by opening to it, just as moonlight bathes the world without effort.

Together, these threads invite us to see the feminine, not as one face but as a multi-faceted flowing spectrum — childlike and ancient, faery and priestess, human and cosmic. At the heart of it all is a simple invitation: to breathe, to love, and to let the light flow.

A Gentle Practice

This meditation gifted me a simple yet profound practice that we can all return to:

  1. Sit quietly, and place your right hand on your right thigh over any mark, scar, or place that feels tender to you. Imagine it as your faery ring — a hidden doorway to the unseen world.

  2. With your left hand, join thumb and middle finger. Extend the index finger forward as your healing wand.

  3. If you wish, gently hold a selenite wand in the palm of your hand, between your thumb and forefinger, allowing the wand of light to amplify your intention: “I call on Swithun to draw near and ensure that this healing is for my highest good and for the highest good of ALL THAT IS.”

  4. Close your eyes and breathe. Whisper: “Faery May, breathe.”

  5. Visualise liquid angelic light flowing from your crown chakra, through your spine and down through your hand, cleansing, healing, and opening your connection to the faery realm.

  6. This can also be used to send distant healing to someone (with permission from them) or somewhere in this time frame or to a different point in time in the past or future.

  7. To close the healing say: “With love and gratitude for all that has been bestowed.”
